Jewish traditions surrounding grief and mourning can be deeply meaningful.  For seven days the community has an opportunity to gather at the home of someone who has experienced a loss, to provide support (and of course sustenance) for the grieving family.  During this time, it is traditional to hold a “shiva minyan,” a service of comfort.  While a rabbi or cantor can and often does lead this experience, a Jewishly educated member of the community can also fulfill this sacred obligation.  If you would like to learn how to lead or co-lead this warm contribution to the healing of our sorrowing families, or if you’d like to understand better how to participate in such services in the event that you need them someday, join Rabbi Cantor Wissot and Cantorial Intern Emma Aronson as they guide us through the wisdom of this special tradition, and learn skills to help your Temple Judea community.
