An elderly bookseller, Kollhoff, delivers his recommendations door-to-door. An unlikely friendship develops with a nine-year-old girl who wants to accompany him, and his life changes. His special customers are almost like friends to him, and he is their most important connection to the world. When Kolhoff is suddenly fired, it takes the power of books and the nine-year-old girl to make them all find the courage to rebuild their bonds with each other.

We choose fiction and some non-fiction about people

whose lives and stories—like our own—reflect some life experience.

Along the way, we have discovered the pleasure of

becoming acquainted with books, authors, and genres new to us.

Best of all is sharing each other’s viewpoints

as we widen our understandings and deepen our connections to each other.
