This month TJVillage Book Mavens are reading and discussing
The Matchmaker’s Gift by Lynda Cohen Loigman
A mix of historical fiction and contemporary storytelling, this novel alternates the stories of two young women: Sara, an early 20th century immigrant on the Lower Eastside, who feels a calling to be a matchmaker; and Abby, her 1990’s granddaughter, disillusioned by her parents’ failed marriage, who is committed to success as a high-powered divorce lawyer. The contrast in values and perspectives across the generations plays out through an upbeat and light-hearted narrative—written with a touch of magical realism signaled by the star-dust and flower-strewn book jacket.
Book Mavens Discussion Meeting
Monday, June 24, at 2 PM
In-person in the Weiner Library, Temple Judea
Book Mavens love books and—better yet—book-talking with friends.
We choose fiction and some non-fiction about people
whose lives and stories—like our own—reflect some life experience.
Along the way, we have discovered the pleasure of
becoming acquainted with books, authors, and genres new to us.
Best of all is sharing each other’s viewpoints
as we widen our understandings and deepen our connections to each other.
